Jane’s Walk invitation – Rome

07/05/2025

🎉 The Jane’s Walk of the Streets for Citizens Project joins the PIU – Universal Inclusive Walk on May 9, 2025, in Rome!

ANCI Lazio is pleased to announce that, within the framework of the European Streets for Citizens Project funded by the Interreg Euro-MED Programme, it will organize the James Walk as part of the Universal Inclusive Walk (PIU) promoted by Disability Pride Italia. The initiative will take place on Friday, May 9 at 5:00 PM in the EUR district of Rome, in collaboration with Rome’s Municipality IX and the Matteo Ricci Comprehensive School.

👣 The walk will feature students from IC Ricci who will “step into the shoes” of people with disabilities by navigating the city streets using wheelchairs, white canes, blindfolds, earmuffs, and earplugs to simulate various motor, visual, and hearing impairments. This educational and transformative experience aims to help identify and reflect on the architectural and communicative barriers still too common in our public spaces.

📍The route will start from the Eur Palasport metro station and follow Viale America, Via Beethoven, and Via Liszt, ending at Piazza Guglielmo Marconi. It will also pass through Via Cina, one of the pilot areas of the Streets for Citizens Project – an urban space selected to experiment with sustainable mobility, accessibility, and participatory urban planning, thanks to the direct involvement of citizens and schools.

👐 The event, made possible also thanks to the support of municipal councillor Paola Angelucci (Public Works, Mobility, and Education), will include educational moments focused on Sign Language, Braille code, Augmentative and Alternative Communication, and a reading of the book Disability Explained to Children.

📢 Through this initiative, ANCI Lazio and the City of Rome are working to promote more equitable, inclusive, and participatory mobility for everyone!
